10 artists to watch in 2020

These last few weeks confined I haven't been able to travel (as the mayority of you), but this gave me the  chance  to dedicate more time to another of my great passions, music. It's already clear that this year we won't be able attend music festivals, or at least not in person, because social networks hasn't stop broadcasting direct shows by great artists (which we know is not the same, but it is appreciated) . So, I have decided to bring you this post with the artists to watch out this year.

Estas ultimas semanas confinada no he viajado, pero he podido dedicar más tiempo a otra de mis grandes pasiones, la música. A día de hoy, ya parece claro que este año nos quedaremos sin festivales de música, o por lo menos sin poder verlos presencialmente, ya que las redes sociales se han convertido en la nueva plataforma para los festivales (no es lo mismo, pero se agradece). Así que, he decidido traeros este post con los artistas que darán mucho que hablar este año.

BENEE
this New Zealand singer and songwriter from Auckland is 2020’s breakout indie pop phenomenon. In 2019, Benee won 4 New Zealand Music Awards, namely Single of The Year, Best Solo Artist, Best Breakthrough Artist and Best Pop Artist. A whole generation of TikTokers have made Supalonely one of the hits of the moment and it’s evolved into a perfect alt-pop quarantine anthem. The 20-year-old New Zealander, real name Stella Rose Bennett, dropped the track late last year; last month, it caught fire on TikTok, comforting those in lockdown with its lyrics about isolation. BENEE’s sold out shows from London and New York to all across Australia and NZ. You will hear about her for sure.

Esta cantante y compositora neozelandesa de Auckland es el fenómeno del pop independiente de este año. En 2019, Benee ganó 4 categorías en los premios de la música de su país: Single del Año,  Mejor Cantante en Solitario,  Mejor Artista Revelación y Mejor Artista Pop. Toda una generación de TikTokers ha convertido el tema Supalonely en uno de los éxitos del momento y en el himno de la cuarentena. La neozelandesa de 20 años, cuyo nombre real es Stella Rose Bennett, lanzó este último tema el año pasado pero fue el mes pasado cuando arrasó en TikTok, consolando con sus letras a los que estábamos confinados. BENEE ha hecho sold outs desde Londres hasta Nueva York pasando por Australia y Nueva Zelanda. Seguramente oirás hablar de ella.

CONAN GRAY
Gray started out uploading vlogs and covers to YouTube as a teenager. After signing a record deal with Republic Records in 2018, he released his debut EP Sunset Season which gained over 300 million streams online. His debut studio album, Kid Krow, was released in March 2020 and reached number 5 on the Billboard 200, making him the biggest US new artist debut of 2020. Gray is one of the most streamed artists on Spotify, with his breakthrough single "Maniac" having accumulated over 100 million streams on the platform alone. "Maniac" has been certified Gold in the US, Canada and Australia as of April 2020.

Gray comenzó a subir vlogs y covers a YouTube cuando era un adolescente. Después de firmar un contrato discográfico con Republic Records en 2018, lanzó su primer EP Sunset Season, que obtuvo más de 300 millones de reproducciones. Su primer álbum de estudio, Kid Krow, fue lanzado en marzo de 2020 y alcanzó el número 5 en el Billboard 200, lo que lo convierte en el mayor debut de artistas nuevos de EE. UU. en 2020. GRACIE ABRAMS
the 20-yeras-old who could be the next Lorde is the daughter of J.J. Abrams, the blockbuster film producer and director, whose most recent work includes Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Now, she has almost 20,000 followers on Soundcloud, over 300,000 followers on Instagram, and a comment from Lorde saying, “Send me this mp3.” Scrolling through Gracie Abrams's Instagram gives you a pretty accurate snapshot of the 20-year-old singer-songwriter's life. Slotted in next to Family Guy memes, Greta Thunberg love, and fangirl footage of Clairo are homespun clips of new music showcasing Abrams' delicate voice and warm songwriting abilities. If you like Lorde, you will love her.

Gracie podría ser la próxima Lorde. La hija de J.J. Abrams, el exitoso productor y director de cine, cuyo trabajo más reciente incluye Star Wars: The Last Jedi, ya tiene casi 20,000 seguidores en Soundcloud, más de 300,000 seguidores en Instagram y un comentario de Lorde que dice: "Envíame este mp3". Desplazarse por el Instagram de Gracie Abrams te da una instantánea bastante precisa de la vida de esta cantante y compositora de apenas 20 años. Junto a los memes de Family Guy, el amor por Greta Thunberg y las imágenes fangirl de Clairo sus clips caseros  muestran su delicada voz y las cálidas habilidades de composición de Abrams. DEB NEVER
she is the daughter of a Korean Presbytarian pastor and a nurse. By the time she hit 15, Deb needed a way to let her feelings out. She began writing songs at her mother’s home in Washington, having taught herself guitar on a stolen church band instrument in South Korea. Deb hasn’t been making waves for very long – her debut EP, House on Wheels, dropped in late 2019 – but she’s already made an indelible imprint on her scene. She’s toured with Floridian break-out star Dominic Fike, sung on the Brockhampton album Ginger, and started collaborating with artists as diverse as Jim-E Stack and Jam City for her follow-up EP, due later this year. She is on Dazed100 list for this year.

hija de un pastor presbiteriano coreano y una enfermera, al cumplir 15 años, se dio cuenta de que necesitaba una manera de expresar sus sentimientos. Así comenzó a escribir canciones tocando de forma autodidacta una guitarra que había robado de la banda de la iglesia en Corea del Sur. Deb no lleva mucho tiempo en la escena musical,  pero su EP debut, House on Wheels, lanzado a finales de 2019, ya ha dejado huella. DOMINIC FIKE
Is an American singer and rapper from Naples, Florida who is signed to Columbia Records and is of Filipino and African-American descent. He released the EP Don't Forget About Me, Demos at the age of 21 in December 2017, which was recorded while he was on house arrest for battery of a police officer. The EP caught the attention of several record labels and sparked a bidding war, and he signed with Columbia for a reported $4 million. He later went to jail for violating that house arrest, and came to wider attention in 2018 for the song "3 Nights", which peaked within the top ten of the charts in Australia, the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom. It was placed on rotation on several radio stations and Spotify playlists and received favorable reviews from outlets such as Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, and Billboard. He has also made a collaboration with Marc Jacobs.

Este cantante y rapero estadounidense de Naples, Florida, es de ascendencia filipina y afroamericana. Con 21 años lanzó el EP Don't Forget About Me, Demos que grabó mientras estaba bajo arresto domiciliario por agredir a un oficial de policía. El EP llamó la atención de varios sellos discográficos y desencadenó una guerra de ofertas. Finalmente firmó con Columbia por unos $ 4 millones. Más tarde fue a la cárcel por violar ese arresto domiciliario, pero en 2018 su tema "3 Nights" se situó en el top10 de las listas en Australia, Irlanda y Reino Unido y recibió críticas favorables de medios como Rolling Stone, Pitchfork y Billboard. LAUV
is an American singer, songwriter and record producer based in Los Angeles. His debut EP Lost in the Light was released in 2015 and his compilation album I Met You When I Was 18 (The Playlist) was released in 2018. He has written songs for other artists including the singles "Boys" by Charli XCX, "No Promises" by Cheat Codes and Demi Lovato and "Imperfections" by Celine Dion. His debut studio album ~how i'm feeling~ was released on March 6, 2020. In November 2018, Lauv announced his first headlining tour starting the next year in Asia. Lauv made his debut in K- pop through his collaboration with BTS for the song "Make It Right", which is an ode to ARMY (BTS fans). He also made another song with BTS called "Who". If you're named in the same sentence with BTS, you'll have a brilliant future.

MERCI, MERCY
Born Mercedes Thorne, as a teenager, she lived in Beijing and Thailand, before moving back to Sydney. In 2018 she put a little song called ‘Be’ on triple j Unearthed (the Australian music discovery initiative of Triple J. radio station) signed a worldwide record deal, got herself a management team and is now ready to release her first body of music at the age of 19. 'Fucked Myself Up’ released in March 2020, is the first taste from an exciting young Australian singer/songwriter., the video of this song was made by Charli XCX and Normani’s Giphy animator, Bianca Bosso.

Mercedes Thorne, aka Merci, Mercy, vivió en Beijing y Tailandia durante su adolescencia, antes de regresar a Sydney. En 2018, su tema 'Be' se emitió en Triple j Unearthed ( la iniciativa  para descubrir talento musical de la cadena de radio australiana Triple J) y firmó un contrato discográfico mundial. Y, en marzo  de este año, esta joven astista de 19 años lanzó su single debut, FMU (“Fucked Myself Up”). El video de esta canción fue hecho por Charli XCX y la animadora Giphy de Normani, Bianca Bosso. 

KENNY MASON
24 year old rapper, Kenny Mason from West Atlanta represents one of the many faces of the younger generation currently shifting the paradigm of ATL Hip-Hop. Displaying versatility on every verse he’s put out so far, Kenny has built up quite a buzz in the underground music scene, even catching the attention of J.I.D, who’s collaborated with him for an upcoming EP. Off the release of his latest single ‘Hit’. Kenny is already showing major potential in becoming the next breakout act from his city.

Este rapero de 24 años, del oeste de Atlanta, representa una de las muchas caras de la generación más joven que actualmente está cambiando el paradigma del ATL Hip-Hop. Kenny ha creado un gran revuelo en la escena musical underground, al mostrar versatilidad en cada verso que ha publicado hasta ahora. Incluso llamando la atención de J.I.D,  con quien ha colaborado para su próximo EP no incluido en el lanzamiento de su último sencillo "Hit". Kenny ya está mostrando un gran potencial para convertirse en el próximo talento del que oiremos hablar.

JESSIE REYEZ
is a Canadian singer and songwriter. Her 2016 single "Figures" peaked at number 58 on the Canadian Hot 100 in 2017 and was certified double Platinum by Music Canada and Gold by the RIAA. Her 2017 EP, Kiddo, led to four nominations released in 2018 and won R&B/Soul Recording of The Year at the 2019 Juno Awards. Reyez has also co-written songs for Calvin Harris and Normani, most notably penning the hit "One Kiss", the biggest selling song of 2018 in the United  Kingdom. Her debut album has been released in April 2020. She is on tour with Billie Eilish.

LAV
she released the longing, misty-eyed ‘From Me, The Moon’ on a whim. The 21-year old first started writing poetry at an early age. She slowly built an online following with those words as well as TikToks about shitty boyfriends and the realities of visiting Disneyland with IBS. The sepia breakup anthem of ‘From Me, The Moon’ was just another part of herself she wanted to put out into the world but soon enough, it caught the attention of Finneas and Billie Eilish who shared the track on their Instagram Stories. Six months later Billie went on CBS’ This Morning and said that song, along with Lana Del Rey’s ‘Off To The Races’, was one of the tracks she wishes she’d written.

con 21 años comenzó a escribir poesía a una edad temprana y, poco a poco, construyo una base de seguidores a través de sus palabras y tik toks hablando sobre novios de mierda o visitar Disneylandia con SII. El himno a la ruptura "From Me, The Moon" era únicamente un pedacito sobre sí misma que quiso lanzar al mundo, pero pronto llamó la atención de Finneas y Billie Eilish, quienes compartieron la canción en sus historias de Instagram. Seis meses después, Billie asistió al programa "This Morning" de la CBS y dijo que esa canción, junto con "Off To The Races" de Lana Del Rey, era una de las canciones que desearía haber escrito.
