48h in Dubai and Kuwait City

Today I bring you a post about my brief visit to the Middle East. I went to Dubai  a couple of days for work and took the opportunity to make an express visit to Kuwait on the way to Saudi Arabia. But I will talk about Saudi Arabia on a next post, not to over saturate you guys. The truth is that I did not have the opportunity to visit much, but I could take some impressions that may be useful if you plan to visit this region.

It was the first time I was traveling to the Middle East, and I really excited to visit this part of the world. I think that Dubai is a good first contact with the Arab world, because it is a very cosmopolitan city and the most similar, saving distances, to a European city. While the tag code is strictly governed by Islam, the use of Muslim clothing is not mandatory and you will see many foreigners in shorts or tops both in the street and in shopping centers.

Although alcohol or pork products cannot be offered to any Muslim, in Dubai, unlike in other Arab countries, you can buy alcohol in restaurants. It is also not well seen to hug or kiss in public. On the other hand, everything can be paid by card, so we didn't need to change money. Uber works very well and we used it for everything. You have to keep in mind that those are not cheap countries, because people here have a very high standard of living.

We stayed at the Vida Downtown hotel, very well located for visiting the city. We went to the Dubai Mall, the largest mall in the world (it even has a huge aquarium and an ice rink). In these countries, they spend a lot of time in shopping centers. On the one hand, because temperatures reach 50 degrees and you can not be on the street and, on the other, because buying is one of its main entertainment. Especially in Kuwait, where they are more strict with religion and there are not many more forms of fun. From this mall you can admire the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khlaifa, and also enjoy the fountain of Dubai and its show that they say surpasses that of the Bellagio Fountains in Las Vegas.

In the evening we went to a Lebanese restaurant in Madinat Jumeirah, a miniature Arab city within Dubai, which also more than 50 restaurants and nightclubs. From the souk inside this city, we traveled its five-kilometer river in one of its traditional or open boats to the restaurant. If you say that you are staying at the city hotel, the journey is free.

From here we went to Kuwait where we spent a few hours before going to Riyadh. We saw its financial center with where its famous liberation tower and its largest (and second largest in the Middle East) The Avenues shopping center. A shopping center with more than 800 stores and parking spaces for 10,000 cars. Here you can find all kinds of brands, from low cost to luxury brands.

I hope you found it interesting and soon I will bring you a post about my brief stay in Saudi Arabia. Happy week!

Feliz semana!
