Calçotada at Mora de Ebro

As you already know from previous posts, there is a Catalan tradition of which I am a true fan, the calçotada! This typical meal consists of eating a variety of scallion called calçot that is roasted directly on flames and eaten by hand, seasoned with a special sauce called romesco. Then, the embers are used to roast meats and sausages for the second course. The season begins in winter and goes until the beginning of spring. There is nothing I like more than going on a calçotada with friends, especially if it is a rural outdoor environment.

Como mucho ya sabéis por anteriores posts, hay una tradición catalana de la que soy muy fan, la calçotada! Esta comida típica de aquí consiste en comer una variedad de cebolleta llamada calçot que se asa directamente sobre llamas y se come con la mano, aderezados con una salsa especial llamada romesco. Después, las brasas se aprovechan para asar carnes y embutidos para el segundo plato. La época inicia en invierno y va hasta principio de la primavera. No hay nada que me guste más que ir de calçotada con amigos, sobre todo si es un entorno rural al aire libre.

Now that we are in the middle of the season, it came to my mind last year's calçotada and I have realized that I haven't tell you anything on the blog ... But as the saying goes, it is better late than never ... and here the post about the wonderful weekend we spent with our friends Natalia and Bertran (and all their family) in Mora de Ebro (Tarragona) eating calçots and visiting the area.

Ahora que estamos en plena temporada, he recordado la gran calçotada del año pasado y me he dado cuenta que no os conté nada en el blog... Pero como dice el refrán, más vale tarde que nunca... y aquí os traigo un post con el maravilloso finde que pasamos con nuestros amigos Natalia y Bertran (y toda su familia) en Mora de Ebro (Tarragona) comiendo calçots y visitando la zona.

The calçotada was at the beginning of March and we had a fantastic weather. We stayed all weekend in the area and discovered the surroundings. We went to do a wine tasting at the Wine Cathedral in Pinell de Bray. The Wine Cathedral is located in a beautiful modernist-style cooperative building of the early twentieth century designed by Cèsar Martinell, a direct disciple of Antoní Gaudí. On the way home we had lunch, by chance, in a restaurant FULLY recommended: Les Agulles. They had a delicious menu at a great price. Definitely to repeat!

La calçotada fue a principio de marzo y nos hizo un tiempo fantástico. Aprovechamos para quedarnos todo el fin de semana y descubrir los alrededores. Fuimos a hacer una cata de vinos a la Catedral del Vino en Pinell de Bray. La Catedral del Vino se encuentra en un precioso edificio cooperativista de estilo modernista de principios del siglo XX diseñado por Cèsar Martinell, discípulo directo de Antoní Gaudí. De vuelta a casa comimos, de casualidad, en un restaurante TOTALMENTE recomendable: Les Agulles. Tenían un menu delicioso a muy buen precio. Sin duda para repetir!
