10 days in Bavaria: Nuremberg, Lauf & Bamberg

A few weeks ago we spent 10 days travelling in Bavaria. At first glance it doesn't seem a very exotic destination, but the truth is that we came back in love with this area. Definitely a perfect trip to enjoy in August, without crowds and without heat. Absolute relax. On our route we visit Nuremberg, Lauf, Bamberg, Danauwörth, Augsburg, Tegernsee, Mittenwald and Bad Tölz. Today I bring you our first part of the trip.

Hace unas semanas estuvimos 10 días de vacaciones con Baviera. A primera vista no parece un destino muy exótico, pero la verdad es que hemos vuelto enamorados de esta zona. Sin duda una ruta perfecta para disfrutar en agosto, sin aglomeraciones y sin calor. Relax absoluto. En nuestra ruta visitamos Núremberg, Lauf, Bamberg, Danauwörth, Augsburgo, Tegernsee, Mittenwald y Bad Tölz. Hoy os cuento nuestra primera parte del viaje.

We fly with a direct flight from Barcelona to Nuremberg. When I was a teenager I used to spend summers here learning German at the home of a family that, over the years, has become my own. The family has grown and I really wanted to meet the new members. So we decided to spend a few days in this beautiful city.

Volamos en vuelo directo desde Barcelona a Nuremberg. Cuando era adolescente solía pasar aquí los veranos aprendiendo alemán en casa de una familia que, con los años, se ha convertido la mía propia. La familia ha crecido y tenía muchas ganas de conocer a los nuevos integrantes. Así que decimos pasar unos días en esta preciosa ciudad.

You can discover the essentials of Nuremberg by walking around its historic center: the Nuremberg Castle, the market square with its famous Schöner Brunnen fountain, the Albrecht Dürer house, Our Lady's Church and that of St. Lawrence. You also can't leave without trying their famous sausages or their sweet Lebkuchen. Undoubtedly very interesting is also the Documentation Center of the National Socialist Party concentrations.

Los imprescindibles de Nuremberg se pueden descubrir paseando pos su centro histórico: el castillo de Nuremberg, la plaza del mercado con su famosa fuente Schöner Brunnen, la casa de Albrecht Dürer, la iglesia de Nuestra Señora y la de San Lorenzo. Tampoco te puedes ir sin probar sus famosas salchichas o sus dulces Lebkuchen. Sin duda muy interesante es también el Centro de Documentación del Recinto de concentraciones del partido nacionalsocialista.

My friends live on the outskirts of the city, very close to a beautiful town called Lauf an der Pegnitz, so we also spend one morning visiting it. This town is not well known outside the area, but it is really beautiful. It is a wonder to visit its old town and the castle built by Emperor Charles IV, as King of Bohemia, between 1357 and 1360.

Mis amigos viven en las afueras de la ciudad, muy cerca de un pueblito precioso que se llama Lauf an der Pegnitz, por lo que también dedicamos una mañana a visitarlo. Este pueblo no es my conocido fuera de la zona, pero es realmente precioso. Es una maravilla visitar su casco antiguo y el castillo construido por el emperador Carlos IV, en su calidad de Rey de Bohemia, entre 1357 y 1360.

From Nuremberg we also did a day trip to Bamberg, another Bavarian jewel. Here you can't  miss its cathedral, the old town hall, the New Residence and its historic center with its little Venice. Here we ate in an authentic restaurant of typical local food, Franconia.

Desde Nuremberg también hicimos una excursión de un día a Bamberg, otra joya bávara. Aquí no te puedes perder su catedral, el antiguo ayuntamiento, la Nueva Residencia y su centro histórico con la pequeña Venecia. Aquí comimos en un auténtico restaurante de comida típica de la zona, Franconia.
