My friend Tania told me that we couldn't go to Tangier and not visit Chefchaouen. And so we did! Chefchaouen was founded by a small Berber population. Its original population was composed mainly of exiles from al-Andalus, that's why the old part of the city is very similar to those of Andalusian villages, with narrow streets of irregular shape and whitewashed houses. Its main feature is that all houses are whitewashed in blue, Chefchaouen's blue as we nicknamed it.
Mi amiga Tania me dijo que no podíamos volver de Tánger sin visitar Chaouen, y ¡así lo hicimos! Chaouen fue fundada por una pequeña población bereber. Su población original estuvo compuesta sobre todo por exiliados de al-Ándalus, razón por la cual la parte antigua de la ciudad tiene una apariencia muy similar a la de los pueblos andaluces, con pequeñas callejuelas de trazado irregular y casas encaladas. Su principal característica es que todas sus casa están encaladas en color azul, azul Chaouen como lo apodamos.
Desde Tánger se puede ir en autobús público desde la estación de autobuses (Gare Routier). El trayecto son unas 2h30 y cuesta 35Dh. Sin embargo, la frecuencia es bastante escasa. Creo que había un bus a las 8h, otro a las 10.30h y luego otro por la tarde. Nosotras llegamos a las 9h a la estación por lo que optamos por ir en Gran Taxi.
Grand Taxi is a system of collective taxi that starts when there are 6 passengers (or when 6 passages are paid). From Tangier you have to go first to Tétouan (1 hour drive and costs about 30Dh per person). The taxi drops you off at the bus station of Tétouan. Here you can stop and visit the city (which we didn't do) or take another taxi to Chefchaouen (one and a half hour drive approximately and 35Dh per person). Don't imagine a minivan for 7 people, you go on a "normal" car with 5 other people plus the driver (3 in the front and 4 in the back! [Frightened Emoji]. On the way back we were lucky and got a Grand Taxi direct to Tangier in a minivan with 7 seats for 70Dh!!!
El Gran Taxi es un sistema de taxi colectivo que sale cuando hay 6 pasajeros (o cuando se pagan los 6 pasajes). Desde Tánger tienes que ir primero a Tetuán (1 hora de trayecto aproximadamente y cuesta 30Dh por persona). El taxi te deja en la estación de autobuses de Tetuán. Aquí puede parar y visitar la ciudad (cosa que nosotros no hicimos) o coger otro taxi a Chaouen (1h30 de viaje aproximadamente y 35Dh por persona). No te imagines un monovolumen de 7 plazas, vas en un coche "normal" con otras 5 personas más y el conductor (¡3 delante y 4 detrás! [emoji del susto]. A la vuelta tuvimos suerte y ¡¡¡cogimos un Gran Taxi directo a Tánger en un MONOVOLUMEN de 7 plazas por 70Dh!!!
When you reach the old center of Chefchaouen all in blue, you hallucinate! It's really all blue. It is very pleasant to stroll through its streets and eat at its main square. We ate really good for 55Dh. You can see it in a couple of hours and return same day to Tangieri (which is what we did).
Cuando llegas al centro antiguo y azul de Chaouen ¡alucinas! Realmente es todo AZUL. Es muy agradable pasear por sus callecitas y comer en su plaza. Nosotros comimos super bien por 55Dh. Puedes verlo en un par de horas y regresar el mismo día a Tánger (lo que hicimos nosotras).
