5 (girl's) bands to watch in 2016

2015 was definitely the year of Hinds, Zella Day, Burning Peacocks, Beaû and Glass Animals. Five relatively new bands that have made the difference and have a promising career ahead. Of the 5 groups mentioned above, most are made of women ... I don't know if its by chance, but the 5 bands I'm suggesting for 2016 are also entirely formed by women. This is my small xmas present for you. MERRY CHRITSMAS!

El 2015 fue sin duda el año de Hinds, Zella Day, Burning Peacocks, Beaû y Glass Animals. Cinco bandas relativamente nuevas que han dado el salto y que tienen una carrera prometedora por delante. De los 5 grupos que he nombrado, la mayoría están compuestos por mujeres... No se si es casualidad, pero para el 2016 también he elegido muchas... de hecho, las 5 bandas que os propongo están formadas por mujeres. Mujeres de gran talento que el 2016 puede ser su año! Y este es mi pequeño regalo de navidad para vosotros. FELIZ NAVIDAD!!!!

Definitely my favorite, because of its multidisciplinary talent. The 18 years old singer and songwriter from LA, learned to play the piano by ear, started at the age of 9 in the prestigious choir by Paul Salamunovich and has collaborating with composers like Justin Parker (Lana Del Rey, Sia, Bat for Lashes) and Linda Perry (Alicia Keys, Pink, Gwen Stefani). She has just released her presentation EP and videoclip where she plays all the instruments and she has herself directed the video.

Sin duda mi favorita, por su talento pluridisciplinar. Cantante y compositora de LA de 18 años, aprendió a tocar el piano de oído, entró a los 9 en el prestigioso coro de Paul Salamunovich y ha colaborando con compositores como Justin Parker (Lana Del Rey, Sia, Bat for Lashes) y Linda Perry (Alicia Keys, Pink, Gwen Stefani). Acaba de lanzar su EP de presentación donde toca todos los instrumentos y ha dirigido ella misma el video del tema Ghost.

Some of you may know her as FOE, her former musical project. Hannah has changed name and she now presents herself as Hannah Lou Clark. The truth is that I loved FOE before and haven't hear much about for a long time. I'm happy to have her back. This girl is very talented and not only as musician, but also as illustrator.

Tal vez alguno las conozcáis por el nombre de FOE, su antiguo proyecto musical. Hannah ha cambiado nombre y se presenta ahora como Hannah Lou Clark. La verdad es que FOE ya me gustaba y hacía tiempo que no sabía nada de Hannah. Esta chica tiene mucho talento y no solo musical, sus ilustraciones son únicas.

Another young talent. Abra is from London but grew up in Atlanta (USA).She doesn't want to disclose her real name or age, but I think she is about 19 years old. She still writes all her own lyrics and creates all her own beats, and her "studio" is still the walk-in closet of her bedroom in her parents' house. She still records every song from an awkward, "super painful" kneeling position on the floor, and her "desk" is still an overturned clothes hamper. In other words, her music might not be as clean and polished or scrubbed down and reduced as it could be, but then again, that's kind of the point.

Otro joven gran talento. Abra es de Londres pero se ha criado en Atlanta (EEUU). No quiere divulgar su nombre real ni edad, pero me ha parecido deducir que tiene unos 19 años. Sus canciones las produce ella misma desde el vestidor de casa de sus padres, y en una extraña y dolorosa posición en cuclillas y con la mesa llena de ropa. En otras palabras, su música tal vez no esté tan limada ni depurada como debería, pero ahí radica su sonido único.

Pom Poms
Grammy nominated producer Billy Mohler and singer/songwriter Marlene Gold have formed a delightfully retro sounding project called Pom Poms. The LA-based duo has launched the song Betty a song that feels like sitting down to watch a rerun of Grease on cable and then switching to Pulp Fiction halfway through.
