Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Les Baux-de-Provence and Arles

On our second day in Provence we visited Saint-Remy-de-Provence, home of Nostradamus, Les Baux-de-Provence and, on our way to Arles, its Roman aqueduct and Montmajour Abbey.

Nuestro segundo día en La Provence visitamos Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, el pueblo donde nació Nostradamus, Les Baux-de-Provence y, de camino a Arlés, su acueducto romano y la abadía de Montmajour.

We liked very much Saint-Remy-de-Pce, a typical Provencal village. It is tiny and you can visit it easily in short time. The square is beautiful and with a colorful and festive decoration which gives a cheerful touch. All the restaurants were full, so we figured it was a good place to eat (we had picnic with us and did not eat there).

Saint-Rémy-de-Pce es un pueblo típico provenzal que nos gustó mucho. Es pequeñito y se ve rápido. Su plaza es preciosa y agradable y con una decoración colorista y festiva que le da un toque muy alegre. Todos sus restaurantes estaban llenos, por lo que dedujimos que era un buen sitio para comer (nosotros llevábamos picnic y no comimos aquí).

I didn't like very much our next stop, Les Baux-de-Pce. It is a medieval town built on a rocky mountain with very nice views over the hill. The village itself is nice, but it has become so touristic that has lost its charm and become a theme park where no one lives and there are only souvenir shops. From my point of view, it is not necessary to visit. It is mandatory to leave the car in the car park and is cost 5 € (no time limit).

Nuestro siguiente pueblo, Les Baux-de-Pce, no me gustó tanto. Es un pueblo medieval edificado sobre una montaña rocosa y con unas vistas a la colina muy bonitas. El pueblo en sí es bonito, pero se ha quedado tan destinado al turismo que ha perdido su encanto y se ha convertido en un parque temático donde ya no vive nadie y solo abundan las tiendas de souvenir. Desde mi punto de vista, es prescindible. Es obligatorio dejar el coche en el parking y es cuesta 5€ (sin límite de tiempo).

On our way to Arles we stopped a moment to see the Roman aqueduct. Not an essential stop, but if you have time, it's nice to see it and enjoy the views that resemble Tuscany. We decided to have lunch under the shade of Abbey Montmjaour and, then, continue to Arles.

De camino a Arlés paramos un momento a ver el acueducto romano. No es una parada imprescindible, pero si tenéis tiempo, es bonito verlo y, al final del mismo, disfrutaréis de unas vistas que asemejan a la Toscana. Decimos comer nuestro picnic a la sombra de la Abadía de Montmjaour y seguir para Arlés.

Those who follow me for a while, you already know that I've been there over a year ago. You can read about it here and here. It is true that the city changes a lot if you visit in winter or in summer. Both seasons have their charm; winter mystery and melancholy and summer, light and joy. Undoubtedly, the light in summer makes you clearly understand why the Impressionists painted on these lands.

Los que me seguís hace tiempo, ya sabéis que ya estuve en Arlés hace más de un año. Podéis leerlo todo aquí y aquí. Sí que es verdad que la ciudad cambia mucho si la visitas en invierno o en verano. Ambas estaciones tienen su encanto; el invierno ese halo de misterio y melancolía con el que todo lo envuelve y, el verano, esa luz y alegría que desprende. Sin lugar a dudas, la luz en verano te hace entender claramente porque los impresionistas pintaban en estas tierras.
