On our last day in the south of France we visited Grasse, Cannes and, on our way back to our apartment, Fréjus. We planned also to pass by St. Tropez, but we were too optimistic and we finally visited only the first two and Fréjus, as a turning point to go back home (and dinner)!
En nuestro último día en el sur de Francia visitamos Grasse, Cannes y, de vuelta a nuestro apartamento, Fréjus. Teníamos pensado pasar también por St. Tropez, pero creo que fuimos demasiado optimistas y nos quedamos con las dos primeras y, Fréjus, como punto de inflexión para retroceder (y cenar)!

We first visited Grasse. We were really looking forward to it. On the one hand, my friend Migueru born there and I was excited to learn about the origins of such a person :D On the other hand, who has not read The perfume or seen the film? Surely, this story turned Grasse in our minds, into a mysterious and magical place that we couldn't miss.
Primero visitamos Grasse. Teníamos muchas ganas. Por un lado mi gran amigo Migueru nació allí y me hacía mucha ilusión conocer los orígenes de semejante personaje! :D Por otro lado, quién no ha leído El perfume o visto la película? Sin duda, la historia transformó Grasse en nuestras mentes en un sitio misterioso y mágico que no podíamos dejar de visitar.
He de decir que, lamentablemente, no nos gustó tanto. Es un pueblo bonito pero que no nos impactó más que cualquier otro. Sí que tiene ese punto más auténtico y real porque se ve más vivido y menos cuidado. Un poco como el Raval de La Provenza... ;) Visitamos la fábrica de perfume y, por supuesto, nos entraron ganas de comprarnos todo!
From here we went to Cannes. It wasn't a destination that we marked on our itinerary, only if we had enough time. And we had. Cannes had a special meaning for me. After many years working for the San Sebastian International Film Festival, Cannes had remained in my memory as a very special place: good cinema and glamor. Definitely a festival of reference when you work in the film industry. My other dream would be to go to Sundance!
De aquí nos fuimos a Cannes. No era un destino que tuviésemos marcado en la ruta, sólo apuntado en casa de tener tiempo. Y lo tuvimos. Cannes tenía un sentido especial para mi. Tras muchos años trabajando para el Festival Internacional de Cine de San Sebastián, Cannes había quedado en mi memoria como un sitio especial, de buen cine y glamour. Sin duda un festival de referencia cuando trabajas en cine. Mi otro gran sueño sería ir a Sundance!
I expected an ugly city, where pretending would be the national sport. And, somehow, it is. However, it has the charm of old glories with stale luxury establishments and many stories behind. We loved strolling along the promenade, the shopping area and the beautiful old part of the city. Certainly a city for the new rich or nostalgics.
Me esperaba una ciudad fea, donde aparentar fuera el deporte nacional. Y, en cierta manera, lo es. Sin embargo, tiene el encanto de las viejas glorias con establecimientos de lujo trasnochados y de muchas historias en su haber. Nos encantó pasear por el paseo marítimo, la zona comercial y la preciosa parte vieja de la ciudad. Sin duda una ciudad para nuevos ricos o nostálgicos.
And from here, as an attempt to get to St.Tropez, to Frejus, where we went for dinner before returning home. In short I'll bring several posts about some summers festivals I've attended! Happy rest of the week!
