Berlin South of the Spree

The second day Berlin dawned bright and with an extraordinary wintery white light. The good weather also brought polar air and we had to wear all layers we could! The planed route was ambitious. We had for crossing Mitte until Kreuzberg and walk it thoroughly. From there to Templeholf, Neukölln and, finally, to the East Side Gallery. We almost did it, just some leg's pain for Ideotta...

El segundo día en Berlín amaneció resplandeciente y con una extraordinaria luz blanca de invierno. El buen tiempo trajo también aire polar y nos tuvimos que enfundar todas las capas que pudimos! La ruta era ambiciosa y nos proponíamos atravesar Mitte hasta llegar a Kreuzberg y recorrerlo a conciencia. De ahí a Templeholf, Neukölln y, por último, la East Side Gallery. Prueba superada si no fuera porque Ideotta se destrozó los pies...

During my two years in Berlin, I didn't usually go to Kreuzberg. I could have lived there but, at the end, the fate took me to Prenzlauer Berg. From there, I stepped hardly in X-berg but for special occasion such as Karneval der Kulturen, one of my favorite events in Berlin.

Durante mis dos años en Berlin, no solía ir mucho a Kreuzberg. Estuve a punto de vivir allí pero, finalmente, el destino me llevó a Prenzlauer Berg. A partir de ahí, a penas lo pisé más que para alguna ocasión especial y para asistir al Karneval der Kulturen uno de mis eventos favoritos en Berlín.

However, I must admit that Kreuzberg is really nice and in this last visit, it took a bit of my soul. Too bad it was Sunday and we could not enjoy the thousand thrift stores there.

Sin embargo, he de reconocer que Kreuzberg es realmente bonito y, en esta última visita, me robó un pedacito de alma. Es una pena que fuese domingo y no pudiésemos disfrutar de las mil tiendas de segunda mano que hay.

From here we went to the place I was more looking forward to visit: Tempelhof Airport. When I lived in Berlin, it was an active airport with no incentive to visit, but now this vast space is open to everyone and has a unique atmosphere. Really a magical place.

De aquí fuimos a uno de lo lugares que más ilusión me hacía ir: el aeropuerto de Tempelhof. Cuando yo vivía en Berlín, era un aeropuerto en activo, y no tenía ningún aliciente ir, pero ahora es un espacio inmenso abierto a todo el mundo y con un ambiente único. Es un sitio mágico.

We went then to Neukölln, the new trendy neighborhood where I've never been before. We found a really cool lithography shop open. We ate authentic German food in a simple but delicious restaurant in the channel (I forget the name of the restaurant ...). From here we cross Görlitzer Park to Schlesiches Tor (one of the most beautiful bridges in Berlin) and up to the East Side Gallery, the place you never get tired of.

De aquí caminamos a Neukölln, el nuevo barrio de moda y que creo nunca pisé cuando viví en Berlín. Descubrimos una tienda de litografías abierta que era una pasada! Comimos auténtica comida alemana en un restaurante sencillo pero delicioso en el canal (no recuerdo el nombre del restaurante...). De aquí atravesamos Görlitzer Park hasta Schlesiches Tor (uno de los puentes más bonitos de Berlín) hasta llegar a la East Side Gallery, que nunca te cansas de verlo.

The next day we toured Friedrichshein and we went crazy in the Humana of Frankfurter Tor. An Humana with the size of a department store! I also changed my hotel to NHow. A spectacular hotel near Universal and MTV, that combines music with the air of Barbie's house!

Al día siguiente recorrimos Friedrichshein y nos volvimos locos en el Humana de Frankfuerter Tor. Un humana del tamaño de unos grandes almacenes! También cambié de hotel, NHow. Una auténtica pasada de hotel junto a Universal y MTV que combina lo musical con aires de casa de Barbie!
