Last steps with the Italian heel...

Right now we are flying to Japan! It seems incredible that THE day has finally arrived! As I don't know when I'll be able to connect again, I bring you this summery post about the wonderful waters of southern Italy: Polignano a Mare and Marina di Leporano.

En estos momentos estamos volando hacia Japón! Parece mentira que por fin haya llegado EL día! Como no sé cuando podré volver a conectarme, os dejo este post veraniego sobre las maravillosas aguas del sur de Italia: Polignano a mare y Marina di Leporano.

Polignano a mare

Polignano a Mare is built on the edge of a craggy ravine pockmarked with caves. It's another of those quaint white fishing villages that abound in this area of Italy. The most representative of Polignano is its beach at the foot of the cliff. It is a really nice and photogenic place, though, is a pebble beach with a difficult sea access. That is, highly recommended for a visit, but not as a beach site.

Polignano a mare se levanta sobre un acantilado escarpado con multitud de cuevas. Es otro de esos pintorescos pueblos blancos de pescadores que tanto abundan en esta zona de Italia. Lo más representativo de Polignano es su playa, a las faldas del acantilado. Es un pueblo realmente bonito y fotogénico, si bien, su playa es de piedras y el acceso al mar es difícil. Es decir, totalmente recomendable para visitarlo, pero no como sitio playero.

San Vito dei Normanni

Before arriving to Polignano, we stopped by in San Vito dei Normanni, a curious and picturesque fishing village we liked very much. We were also in a small creek in Marina di Leporano, the nearest coast to the city of Taranto. After several incidents with some really annoying wasps, we get to enjoy this little cove almost to ourselves. Even do, we didn't like the area at all and we strongly recommend avoiding Taranto and its surroundings.

Antes de llegar a Polignano paramos en San Vito dei Normanni, un curioso y pintoresco pueblo de pescadores que nos gustó mucho. También estuvimos en una pequeña cala en Marina di Leporano, la costa más cercana a la ciudad de Taranto. Tras varios incidentes con unas avispas realmente pesadas, conseguimos disfrutar de esta pequeña cala prácticamente para nosotros solos. Eso sí, la zona no nos gustó nada. Os recomiendo fervientemente evitar Taranto y sus alrededores.

Marina di Leporano

We thought it might be interesting to end the day in a "big" city, and we went to Taranto. As we accessed the core of the city we realize that it was not a city worth visiting. The people, the streets, the atmosphere ... everything was suffocating and dirty. We decided to turn around and return to Locorotondo. Later, our host in Brindisi told us that Taranto was the city with the highest rate of cancer mortality in Europe 😱

Pensamos que podría ser interesante acabar el día en una "gran" ciudad, y nos dirigimos a Taranto. A medida que accedíamos al núcleo de la ciudad nos íbamos dando cuenta que no era una ciudad para visitar. La gente, las calles, el ambiente... todo era asfixiante y sucio. Decidimos dar media vuelta y volver hacia Locorotondo. Más tarde, nuestro anfitrión en Brindisi nos contó que Taranto era la ciudad con mayor índice de mortalidad de cáncer de Europa 😱
