Berlin, Michelberger, Happiness

Last month I was in Berlin, among other things, visiting the MTV offices. Berlin is definitely one of my favorite cities. As many all you already know, I lived in this wonderful and unique city for two years. After those two years, the day came, when I had to leave. There was no specific reason, but it was a turning point: stay there forever or discover new horizons. I remember that day like it was yesterday. I think I've ever been as sad as the day I left Berlin. In fact, I spent the entire flight crying. Now every time I go back (and I do it quite often) I feel like coming home. As soon as I got off the plane I feel the smell of bread and feel myself in a safe place. Yes, Germany smells like bread, at least to me... ☺

El mes pasado estuve en Berlín, entre otras cosas, visitando las oficinas de MTV. Berlín es, sin duda, una de mis ciudades favoritas. Como ya sabéis muchos de vosotros, hace un tiempo viví dos años en esta ciudad maravillosa, única y muy inspiradora. Tras dos años en esta ciudad, llegó el día en que tuve que irme. No había ningún motivo específico, pero era un momento de inflexión: quedarse ahí para siempre o descubrir nuevos horizontes. Recuerdo aquel día como si fuera ayer. Creo que nunca he estado tan triste como el día que me fui de Berlín. De hecho, me pase todo el vuelo llorando. Ahora, cada vez que vuelvo (y lo hago bastante a menudo) siento que vuelvo a casa. Nada más bajar del avión ya siento ese olor a pan que me hace sentir en sitio seguro. Sí, Alemania huele a pan, o eso me parece a mi... ☺

The hall

We spent only one night in Berlin, but in a hotel that make us wanted that night never to end: the Michelberger hotel . I had never heard of this place before. Now I can't stop thinking about going back. This unique hotel is located in Friedrichshein, very close to the first place where I lived in Berlin and the famous East Side Gallery. The location is just perfect, not the typical place for tourists, but for people seeking for more, for what really makes this city unique.

Pasamos únicamente una noche en Berlín, pero en un hotel que hizo que no quisiésemos que esa noche acabase nunca: el hotel Michelberger. Nunca había oído hablar de este sitio. Ahora no puedo dejar de pensar en él. Este hotel único, se encuentra en Friedrichshein, muy cerquita del primer piso donde viví en Berlín y de la famosa East Side Gallery. La verdad es que la zona es perfecta. No es el clásico lugar para un hotel de turistas, sino  para gente buscando lo que realmente hace a esta ciudad única.

The hotel is a short walk from two of the most creative neighborhoods: Friedrichshein and Kreuzberg, and close to the touristic and monumental Berlin, Mitte. The M10 tram, better known as the Partytram, also stops here. This famous line connects Friedrichshein with Prenzlauer Berg 24/24 along much of the Berlin scene. M10 peak hours are at night. A true myth of the city. Anyway, this post is not a guide to Berlin, but if you stay here you must also go to Volkspark Friedrichshein, the green lung of the neighborhood (in fact, you can get there by the Partytram).

El hotel se encuentra a dos pasos de dos de los barrios más creativos, Kreuzberg y Friedrichshein, y muy cerca del Berlín turístico y monumental, Mitte. El famoso tranvía M10, más conocido como Partytram, también para aquí. Este tranvía comunica  Friedrichshein con Prenzlauer Berg 24/24, uniendo varios sitios de la escena nocturna berlinesa. Su horario de máxima afluencia es de noche! No me alargo, que este post no pretende ser una guía sobre Berlín. Un último consejo, si os alojáis aquí, debéis ir también al Volkspark Friedrichshein, el pulmón verde del barrio (de hecho, podéis llegar ahí con el Partytram).

The reception is inside the bar. A busy bar with an inviting decoration for any instagram account ☺. The staff is very friendly!! Berliners are not known for their sympathy, or at least not with strangers, but here the stereotype fades from the moment you access the hotel. The first thing they offer you is their drink, The Fountain of Youth, so that your youth is renewed immediately and feel even more impressed by the hotel.

La recepción del hotel está dentro del bar. Un bar concurrido y con una decoración muy apetecible para cualquier cuenta de instagram ☺. El servicio es amabilísimo!!!! Los berlineses no se caracterizan por su simpatía, o por lo menos no con extraños, pero aquí el estereotipo se desvanece desde que accedes a la recepción. Lo primero que te ofrecen es su bebida, The Fountain of Youth, para que rejuvenezcas inmediatamente y te sientas todavía más impresionado por el hotel.

The next surprise is the room! The hotel has several room types (you can view them in their room lookbook ). I had the Loft one. The decor is simple and basic, but with a special taste that makes you feel in Alice in Wonderland! Every single detail is lovingly and carefully chosen. The first thing I saw on my room was a personalized welcome note with a bouquet of fresh flowers, a homemade brownie and two herbal liqueurs! You can imagine my supreme happiness!

Siguiente sorpresa, la habitación! El hotel tiene varios tipos de habitación (podéis verlos en el lookbook de habitaciones que tienen!) Yo tenía la Loft. La decoración es super sencilla y básica, pero con un gusto extraordinario que te hace sentir en Alicia en el País de las Maravillas! Todos y cada uno de los detalles respiran mimo y una cuidada disposición. Nada más entrar me encontré una nota de bienvenida personalizada, con un ramo de flores frescas, un brownie casero y dos licores de hierbas! Podéis imaginaros mi felicidad máxima!

Second surprise ... soap, shampoo and gel by Orla Kiely!! Yeap, I did not know that she has her own bathroom line,  but right now is in my place as a unique and untouchable piece! The room has two floors: the first floor is the bathroom and living room and, upstairs,  the bedroom with Japanese overtones.

Segunda sorpresa de la habitación: jabón, gel y champú de Orla Kiely!!!!!! Ya, yo tampoco sabía que tuviera set de baño, pero ahora mismo está en mi casa como pieza única e intocable! La habitación se compone de dos pisos: en la primera planta está el baño y salón, y en la planta de arriba una habitación con tintes japoneses.

Third and last surprise for this post. Breakfast. O_O fantastic! An exquisite decor and delicious products. To cite a few: butters of all kinds (soy, tomato ...), delicious baked potatoes, homemade cakes ... What can I said, I just hope to return soon!

Día siguiente. Desayuno. O_O fantástico! El desayuno era digno de todo lo que os he contado hasta ahora. Una decoración exquisita y unos productos deliciosos. Por citar algunos: mantequillas de todo tipo (de soja, de tomate...), patatas al horno deliciosas, huevos cocidos TAMBIÉN poco hechos, tartas caseras... En fin, sólo espero volver pronto!
