From Aix you can easily visit Lourmarin by car or as a complicated gymkhana on public transport. We opted for the gymkhana... We can summarize that the buses only run in leap years, which leaves you a margin of "years" to visit the tiny village of Lourmarin with CALM before returning.

Lourmarin's most famous resident was Albert Camus, the Nobel prize-winning author of The Stranger.
Uno de los personajes más conocido de Lourmarin es, sin duda, Albert Camus, premio Nobel de literatura por el Extranjero.
Camus hated driving and said he couldn't imagine a death more meaningless than dying in a car crash. Of course, he died in a car accident, on the way from Lourmarin to Paris, in 1960. He was 46. Albert Camus is buried in Lourmarin cemetery.
Camus odiaba conducir y no imaginaba peor muerte que en accidente de tráfico. Irónicamente, Camus murió a los 46 años en un accidente de coche cuando viajaba de Lourmarin a París y fue enterrado aquí.
Even if it is difficult to arrive to Lourmarin with public transport (it took us 90minutes to arrive from Aix, which is at only 30km) is really worth it. Lourmarin has all these beautiful french stereotypes that makes you wanna moved there immediately to become an artist (until you realize the size of the village and your head activates the alarm of boredom approaching).
A pesar de las dificultades para llegar en transporte público (tardamos 1h30 en llegar desde Aix. Lourmarin esta a únicamente 30km de Aix...) debo decir que Lourmarin es precioso! Parece un decorado sacado de una mente cargada de estereotipos franceses. Lourmarin produce el efecto de querer dejar todo e instalarse ahí para ser artista. Después eres consciente de su tamaño y la razón te dice que te aburrirías como un higo...
One of the most emblematic monuments of Lourmarin is its castle, originally from 12th-century. In 1920, Robert Laurent-Vibert, a producer of cosmetics, bought the ruined castle and employed the architect Henri Pacon to restore it. In 1925, Laurent-Vibert died also in a car accident. In his will he donated the castle to the Académie des Sciences, Agriculture, Arts et Belles Lettres under condition that it should be transformed into a trust, which would support young artists.
Uno de los lugares emblemáticos de Lourmarin es su castillo originario del s.XII. En 1920, Robert Laurent-Vibert lo compró y rescató de su total abandono. Tras restaurarlo en 1925, Robert también murió en un accidente de coche... Tal y como él indicó en su testamento, el castillo fue donado a la Académie des Sciences, Agriculture, Arts et Belles Lettres con la condición de que se convirtiese en una fundación de ayuda a jóvenes artistas.
